On February 13th, The Organizing Committee of the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia, is present at the Vancouver Olympic Games and staged a ‘Kazan Day’ at the Russia House, the Headquarters of Sochi, the next host of the Olympic Winter Games in 2014.
Members of the Olympic Committee of Russia, Russian and foreign journalists, sportsmen and fans were treated with Tatar cuisine and local music.
At a press conference the Tatarstan capital and host city of the 2013 Summer Universiade was presented to the media present.
Marat BarievRussia’s Deputy Minister of Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy Gennady Aleshin and Tatarstan Minister of Youth, Sports and Tourism Marat Bariev spoke at the press conference. But there were no long boring speeches. A tough Olympic day of competitions finished in an informal atmosphere. Tatar dance music was performed with bayan; Tatar national hats (tubeteyka) were handed out as souvenirs and Tatar rap was quite a surprise for the attendants.
Change of President will not affect Preparation for the Universiade
Rustam MinnikhanovA new elected President of the Republic of Tatarstan will come to seat on March 25th, 2010. “A change in President will not affect the preparation of the Republic to host the Summer Universiade in 2013 as Mr. Rustam Minnikhanov, who will succeed Mentimer Shaymiev, is a professional sportsman, and will give particular attention to preparation for the University Games”, said the Minister of sports of the Republic of Tatarstan Mr. Marat Bariev at the press conference in “the Russian house” in Vancouver. – C.
