Christoffer Svae and Thomas Løvold, two Norwegian athletes who participated at the 2009 Winter Universiade in Harbin, China and won a silver medal as members of the Norwegian Men’s curling team can add another medal to their mantelpiece. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada, they also won the silver medal, loosing form the Canadians in the gold medal game.
Poland’s Justyna Kowalczyk wrote Polish sports history becoming the first female Polish Olympic Cross Country Champion. After winning a silver in the sprint, she captured gold in a photo finish in this morning’s women’s 30 km Mass Start Classic beating her Norwegian rival Marit Bjoergen who won the silver and Finland’s Aino-Kaisa Saarinen who took the bronze medal. Kowalczyk participated at the Winter Universiades in Torino (2007) and Innsbruck (2005) where she amassed 6 medals. – C. Pierre, FISU Press Officer
