WUC Department holds Work Meetings in Lausanne Office

WUC Director Laurent Briel with Rowing Technical Chair Lionel Girard at the FISU Lausanne OfficeThe FISU office in Lausanne welcomed the World University Championships Director Laurent Briel for a string of work meetings with international federations located at the Maison du Sport International.

Having recently marked half a year since its opening, the FISU office also hosted various WUC department work sessions with FISU Technical Chairs and the FISU Lausanne Office Executive Assistant Paulo Ferreira.

Laurent Briel first met with International Canoe Federation Secretary-General Simon Toulson having had the opportunity to discuss current affairs between the two federations and to establish an understanding for future common actions.

The meeting with the International Rowing Federation (FISA) gathered the WUC Director and Rowing Technical Chair Lionel Girard on FISU’s behalf, with FISA Executive Director Matt Smith and Events Coordinators Daniela Oronova and Colleen Orsmond. Various points where on the agenda such as the 11th World University Rowing Championship scheduled for August in Szeged (Hungary) and the working agreement between both parties, amongst others.

FISU informally met with Prashant Menon, international relations coordinator of the International Softball Federation. Collaboration on the upcoming 3rd World University Softball Championship in Macerata (Italy) was discussed, with the ISF providing full support in the build-up to this event.

A working session was held with FISU Technical Chair for Archery, Juan Carlos Holgado, former Olympic champion and Gold medallist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. The upcoming 8th World University Archery Championship to be held in Shenzhen (China) in September was discussed also due to the fact that this competition will be a test- event for the Summer Universiade next year.

Our CT Chair, being a four-time Olympic participant, kindly provided a tour of the Olympic Museum in Lausanne furthering the friendly relationship between FISU and FITA.
