We regret to inform to you that the World University Hockey Championship planned to be held from August 28 to September 4, 2010, in Edinburgh, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, will have to be cancelled.
Indeed, the registration and team’s deposit deadline (March 28) is now passed and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) unfortunately informed us that they had received a very low number of entries, all from the European continent.
The decision to officially cancel the championship was taken further to a special consultation between FISU WUC Director Laurent Briel, Technical Committee Chair for Hockey Niall Sturrock, official representative of NUSF GBR Jo Kirk and LOC responsible persons.
Despite all the best endeavors of the different parties involved but especially that of the LOC to keep this championship running, we officially announce you that this championship will not take place. This decision was not an easy one to take, but it would just not have been possible for the LOC to incur financial liabilities for the event due a lack of participation, all the more, without any guarantee of increasing the participation rate at a later stage.
We therefore strongly apologize for all the inconvenience that this may cause to the athletes and participating countries who had registered to this event. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the LOC and NUSF GBR for all the hard work and efforts that they had already put into the preparation of this championship.
