The FISU delegates together with championship participants
Abu Dhabi – At 10: 00, on the morning of 27th April, FISU President Mr. George Killian, accompanied by Vice-President Stefan Bergh and Secretary-General/CEO Eric Saintrond, paid a special trip to Abu Dhabi for the 1st Asian University Taekwondo Championship, taking advantage of the fact that they are attending the 2010 SportAccord Convention in Dubai. They had a small talk with the Heads of Delegates. George Killian highly praised the AUSF activities, especially praised the quality of AUSF Magazine. He said that no matter where we were from, we were the same working for the university student, and he expressed his great expectation, that is, to take care of each university student, no matter where he/she is from. It is just this belief that brought everybody here. Mr. Stefan Bergh briefly introduced FISU’s Strategic Plan and expressed that FISU would like to provide support and help for each member, in the hope to make each member more active.
HoD Meeting with the FISU delegatesMr. Eric Saintrond stressed on the improvement of the quality and communication among FISU members. And he asked all HoDs to update their contact information, in the hope to have all news on the FISU website reach the members. After the meeting, Dr. Omar Al-Hai invited the FISU VIPs to lunch, together with HoDs.
In the afternoon, the preliminary, semi-final and final matches started in the 58kg, 68kg, 80kg, and +87 Categories. For the 58kg Categories, 6 players from Bahrain, U.A.E., Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and China competed. Finally, Saudi Arabia won the 1st Place, followed by U.A.E.. For 68 Categories, 5 players from Saudi Arabia, China, Iran, Hong Kong and Kazakhstan competed. Finally, Iran won, followed by Kazakhstan. For 80 Categories, 3 players from Lebanon, Kazakhstan and Iran compete. Iran won, followed by Kazakhstan. For +87 Categories, only 2 players competed. Saudi Arabia won, followed by Bahrain.
After the competition, the Awarding Ceremony and Closing Ceremony were held. The first 4 players (2 for Bronze Medal) were awarded a medal respectively. Besides that, the first 3 teams were awarded a trophy. Every participant received a Certificate of Participation and each team got a Glass Plate.
It is the first time for AUSF activities to be held in the Western part of Asia. Many countries from this part took part in this championship, which unveiled the mystery of Western Culture for students from the other parts of Asia.
