Brazil – Mauro Cavanha and Rebecca Falconi (MG) traveled this Thursday (May 27th) to Valencia (Spain) where they represent Brazil at the 10th World University Triathlon Championship, between May 29th to 30th.
The 10th edition of FISU’s World University Triathlon Championship combines a 1.5 km swim in the waters of the Las Arenas beach, 10 km cycling and 40 km race also on Las Arenas.
“I’m very anxious. It will be my first international competition this year and I feel really prepared, at the peak of my performance, “said Mauro (UTP-PR).
Rebeca Falconi is also living the expectation of representing Brazil’s team for the first time. “I’m training hard since the beginning of the year, targeting the national championships, and I hope to clock a good result for Brazil,” promises Falconi (UniBH-MG).
History – Mauro and Rebecca already have international experience in Triathlon. In 2005, Mauro participated in the World Championship Under-23 in Japan and Rebekah participated in the World Cup in 2006.
“Now it’s different. In 2006 I was in the amateur category, debuting with Triathlon after being a swimmer for several years”, explains Falconi.
Mauro began his career in sports with Triathlon, encouraged by the results of Fernanda Keller in the Iron Man. “The strength and her dedication inspired me and now I know that the Triathlon is a challenge that requires total dedication. Training from 6 to 7 hours, adequate food. But it is worth.”
The athletes sealed their national qualification in the World University Championship due to the results obtained in the 2010 Brazilian Triathlon University Championship. Marcus Boulitreau, technical assistant of the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU), accompanies both athletes in Valencia.
“This year we want to be at eleven FISU’s World University Championships with teams and athletes that have a real chance to bring medals and good results back to Brazil and also to provide technical growth and integration for Brazilian athletes with the best of university sports” said Luciano Cabral, President of CBDU and FISU Vice-President.
