NANTES – Yesterday, June 25th, the first edition of the World University Savate Championship officially kicked-off in front of a huge crowd. After the marching pass of the participating delegations Mr. Luc Pillot, the President of the Organizing Committee, took the floor to stress the importance of University Sport and the honor for the city and the University of Nantes to host this inaugural FISU event. He also thanked the many volunteers for their invaluable support in organizing the championship.
FISU Assessor Mrs. Penninah Kabenge (UGA) stressed the importance of FISU in the development of this new sport on the FISU program. She thanked the OC for its work in preparing this first edition and congratulated FFSU, the French NUSF for its dynamism. She then invited the Mayor of Nantes to officially open the Championship.
After the official part, the Opening Ceremony continued with a cultural program and demonstrations of savate.
Prior to the Ceremony, the first round of eliminations took place. Once the Championship was officially opened the competitions continued with the second round of eliminations.
In the evening the CISCA members and the Heads of Delegations were invited by the city of Nantes to the city hall for an official welcome ceremony. Mrs. Marie-Françoise Clergeau, representative for the region ‘Loire Atlantique’ to the Mayor of Nantes stressed the importance of this international FISU event for the region. She also underlined the dynamism of the University of Nantes.
The President of the FFSU Mr. Savoye and the FFSU Director-General Mrs. Paulou also were present during this first day of the championship.
