HONG KONG – The 2nd Asian University Table Tennis Championship officially started on 3rd July in Hong Kong.
After the first matches, the Opening Ceremony started with the welcome address from Dr. Patrick CHAN, OC President. He said, “This is the first time for Hong Kong to host an international championship for university students of this kind”. Therefore, he expressed the gratitude to AUSF for giving Hong Kong this opportunity on behalf of USFHK. After his welcome speech, Dr. CHAN invited Dr. CHUNG Tong Gu, AUSF Senior Vice-President to deliver a speech. In his speech, Dr. CHUNG thanked the OC for their great endeavor to this championship. Mrs. Vivien Lau, the Vice-President of the Olympic Committee of Hong Kong declared the opening of this championship.
What is worth mentioning is that all the 11 comprehensive universities in Hong Kong are involved in this championship. Especially, the students from those 11 universities serve as volunteers during this event.
This AUSF championship also attracted great attention of the Hong Kong media, which is encouraging. The Cable TV of Hong Kong has interviewed the Chairman of the Organizing Committee after one of the matches for more detail.
