PODGORICA – One day before the official closing ceremony FISU Technical Chair Tokey Hill reflected on the event so far.
‘As the FISU Technical Director for Karate it is a humbling experience to see the world come together and unifying to make this event one of the best ever! From day one the event started & ended on time and the schedule was follow as written.
The LOC directed by Boris Sekulic has done a great job at the venue providing the best setting for a great championship and the athletes are providing a great show!
The venue is the perfect setting & very user friendly for administer officials and most importantly the athletes. The main reason the event is running so smoothly reflects directly to the officials. When reviewing the daily reports we have had no protest and at an event this large and so many countries that is unbelievable. We have had very few minor injuries and I am happy to report no major ones! This is a direct reflection to what a great job the officials are doing, congratulations to the Chief official Rafael Ortega & WKF TD Dragan Dojcinovic his consul and support officials.
For me viewing the event, with my past experience as a World Champion coach for 23 years and working with the FISU Family for the last 5 WUKC the most important aspect of the event is the athletes. Having 44 countries including the top 10 in the world and over 500 accredited the high level of athletes this event has set the standard.
Former Karate World Champion Tokey Hill had another reason to be happy with the 7th edition. His daughter Ashly Hill won bronze in the Kumite -61kg category … ‘It is always a privilege to have an American on the medal stand but an even greater honor to award my own daughter; it was a very memorable experience that I will not ever forget! This event is truly the FISU Family experience!’, an overjoyed Tokey Hill told FISU Media.
Korean Athlete Wins First Gold ever at WUC Karate.
Records were set and broken at this event and for Korea it was a great one, winning their first gold medal in the Sport of Karate with FISU. ‘For many years I have been watching Korea growth and development in the sport of Karate and with the FISU Family. Today there due-diligence paid off by winning by their first gold medal, congratulations to their delegation, sports org & country!’, said Tokey Hill.
