2010 WUC Equestrian Update: Day 2 of Competitions

1 November 2010

SANGJU – This second day of competitions was devoted entirely to the 2nd and 3rd round to enter the semi-finals. This day was very instructive because it helped clarify the picture for the individual dressage but also gave directions for the team dressage. We must emphasize the achievement of the Belgian team which went straight to the semi-finals. The other team that qualified for the semi-final was Germany.

Note also that for the first time we had a semi-final and obviously a final which was all-female. Four of the great nations of the university riding are represented, i.e. Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Great Britain.

For this second day of competition the spectators are still in mass present at the equestrian center. The student-athletes very much appreciate this large presence.

The volunteers do an outstanding job and do everything in their power to facilitate the comfort of the student riders. A true spirit of friendship has been created between the different parties.

The Organizing Committee has set up a tent village where participants and athletes can experience the Korean culture, cuisine and local specialties. In addition, a series of cultural activities are organized in this village but also in the evening at the athletes’ village.

From tomorrow morning onwards, the Korean national TV will cover live the championship. Tomorrow start the first rounds of the jumping events.
