2017 WU Update: International Experts confirmed Readiness Ski Jump Venue in Almaty for the 28th Universiade

Medal podium Continental Ski Jumping Cup in Almaty

 

ALMATY – The second round of the Continental Ski Jumping Cup took place in Almaty on December 13th and 14th. Seventy athletes representing 12 countries competed to win the round. Ahead of others, Michael Hayboeck of Austria led the standings. Second place went to Slovenian athlete Ziga Mandl, German Markus Eisenbichler took the third place.

Athletes and international experts noted the high level of organization and conduction of the tournament. According to them, the developed infrastructure and availability of the world-class ski-jump complex allowsKazakhstanathletes to qualify for the highest places in the world rankings.

“Almaty is a city of sports; I believe the current infrastructure is pretty much ready for the 2017 Winter Universiade. I would like to remind, that Almaty is well-known for its Medeo Ice Rink as well. Recently, a lot of new sport facilities were build in the city, thus I am sure Almaty will successfully hold the World Student Games”, said Horst Tellman, Coordinator of the ski-jumping Continental Cup.

In this regard, the city plans to hold a series of major international competitive events with the support of the Almaty-2017 28th Universiade Organizing Committee. Therefore, Almaty will host winter and summer rounds of the ski-jumping World Cup in 2012.
