BRIVE – Brive, France, host city of the 5th World University Rugby 7 Championship is a rugby hotbed and thus the right place to host this FISU event. The ‘Stade Derichebourg’, venue where the tournament will be played is the home of the professional rugby club CASBL.
Yesterday, July 10th, Kieran Dowd, the FISU CIC delegate, conducted the accreditation of 18 men’s teams and 8 women’s teams. He was busy all day working closely with the organizers. The participating teams represent four continents, i.e. three from Africa, three from America, three from Asia and nine from Europe.
Beth Coalter, the FISU Technical Delegate fro Rugby 7, conducted site visits with Vincent Kidney, director of sports of the OC. The visit was then followed by a meeting of the CICSCA at the request of the delegate of the Executive Committee of FISU, Prof. Nteere Jacob Stanley. The Director General of the Organizing Committee, Lascoux Lionel, gave a general overview of the organization of the event. Dr. Tom Crips, FISU Medical Committee delegate, was also satisfied with the mediacl preparations of the OC.
The CISCA meeting was followed directly by the General Technical Meeting held in a very good atmosphere and in general its participants have been very largely satisfied with the quality of the event. Beth Coalter then explained the technical details of the event. Prof. Nteere Jacob Stanley warmly thanked the organizers for their work.
The competitions will begin today, Wednesday July 11th at 9:00 am.
