GBR vs RSA
BRIVE – Why only win a single final, when you can win two? This feat was accomplished by both the women’s and men’s teams of Great Britain which won the gold at the 5th World University Rugby 7 Championship in Brive, France.
The British were great tonight. Especially, as both the women and men beat fierce opponents, i.e. France and South Africans respectively.
Yet, for ‘les Bleus’ all started well with a first try scored after only 2 minutes of play while the girls lead the score 7-0. But it’s not at all to the taste of the British who score 6 minutes later. At halftime, both teams are tied and everything is still possible. Taking advantage of a loose ball the British do an incredible race over 65m and crush the French 12-7. The British take the upper hand and at the 20th minute, the ax falls: 24-7.
In the men’s game the thrilling action starts from the first minute as the South Africans opened the score 7-0. Quickly the British join in the scoring and cling to every ball like a hungry lion. At halftime, the score is 21 to 7. And nothing seems to oppose the British victory, not even a yellow card for obstruction for one of the players. Even at 6, the British dominate the game. The South Africans try to level the score, but nothing works.Great Britain ends the game with a 35 to 17.
