Triple gold medallist Janek Szymanski (POL)
ZAKOPANE – Yesterday, December 19th, three more medal podiums were mounted at the 1st World University Speed Skating Championship in Zakopane, Poland. Hero of the day was without doubt Jan Szymanski (POL) who added two more gold medals to the one he conquered on the first day.
The day started with the races in the Men’s 1,000m where Jan Szymanski collected the gold beating Even Johansen (NOR), while another Norwegian, Espen Tveit took the bronze.
In the women’s 1,500m Czech skater Martina Sablikova beat two Polish athletes to the gold leaving silver and bronze to Natalia Czerwonka and Katarzyna Wozniak.
In the Men’s 5,000m, Jan Szymanski won his third gold, while silver went to Martin Bjertnes (NOR) and bronze to Zdenek Haselberger (CZE).
