ABU DHABI – The 3rd Asian University Table Tennis Championship concluded on 25th October with an exciting Closing Ceremony at the Armed Forces Offices Club in Abu Dhabi, the capital of U.A.E. Over 60 participants representing 7 countries took part in this year’s edition of the event, namely, China, Iraq, Jordan, Nepal, Syria, Yemen and U.A.E. It was glad to see the unstable situation in some parts had no negative effect on the participation in sport events.
The Opening Ceremony took place at 19:00 on 22nd Oct. attended by Dr. Saeed Hamad Al Hassani, the President of U. A. E. Higher Education Sports Federation, Dr. Omar Al Hai, the President of the Organizing Committee and AUSF Senior Vice President, Technical Delegate, Prof. Chan Cheong-ki, who ever officiated at all the 3 editions of this event, AUSF Representative, Mr. XU Hui. In his welcome speech, Dr. Saeed Hama Al Hassani, on behalf of UAEHESF, expressed the gratitude to AUSF for attributing this event to U. A. E.
Actually, the Federation has good experience in hosting AUSF and FISU events – 1st Asian University Taekwondo Championship in 2010, AUSF Executive Committee meeting in 2006, 8th FISU Forum in 2006. In the upcoming year, the Federation will host FISU Equestrian Championship in Abu Dhabi and Shooting Sport in Al Ain in 2014.
After three-day competition, the championship marked its end with the Final of Men’s Singles Event. The Awarding Ceremony was held on the Competition Venue, just after the champion match. Besides the medals, each winning team was awarded a trophy. The Closing Ceremony started with the Closing Speech from the OC President, Dr. Al Hai Omar A. He said he hoped all the participants enjoyed their stay in the capital of U. A. E. and he hoped that this championship could be a great memory for all the student athletes during their whole life. Mr. XU Hui, Program Manager of AUSF Secretariat, on behalf of AUSF, thanked OC and U. A. E. Table Tennis Federation for organizing this event.
