4th Asian University Taekwondo Championship in Cheongyang

CHEONGYANG – The 4th Asian University Taekwondo Championship concluded at Cheongyang Gymnasium, Korea on 4th Nov. 215 participants from 17 countries and regions in Asia participated in this event, which was a new record for AUSF.  

Before the Opening ceremony, the Organizing Committee presented a cultural performance show for the participants, including “Little PSY” by Korean singers and a kid dancer, the March-Past by soldier from air force, and Taekwondo acrobatics by Taekwondo Performance Team who chopped wooden board and apple. Audiences were all extremely shocked by their fantastic show.

After the cultural performance, the Opening Ceremony officially started at Cheongyang Gymnasium at 19: 00 on 31st Oct, attended by AUSF Vice President Dr. Chang Hosung, who is also the president of Daegu University, Korea, Grand Master Kyung Chan Kim, Vice-Chairman of World Taekwondo Federation Poomsae Committee, Mr. Lee Seok Hwa, Governor of Cheongyang county, Mr. Jang Chang Young, President of Korean University Taekwondo Federation (KUTF). As the AUSF Representative, Dr. Chang Hosung expressed the gratitude to Cheongyang County and KUTF for their supports to AUSF, to all the participants for their attendance and to the Organizing Committee for the wonderful organization. He hoped the friendship among Asian youth could be strengthened during this championship. After the speeches, Dr. Chang Hosung and Mr. XU Hui, the Program Manager of AUSF Secretariat, respectively presented a souvenir to KUTF and Cheongyang County. The Opening Ceremony ended with the Oath of the athletes and referees representatives.

The Poomsae competitions started on the early morning of 31st Oct. Finally, the gold Medal was awarded to Korea, Silver medal to Indonesia and Bronze medal to Malaysia. The Kyorugi competitions lasted 4 days, with 8 categories (-54kg, -58kg, -63kg, -68kg, -74kg, -80kg, -87kg, and +87kg) for Men and 8 categories (-46kg, -49kg, -53kg, -57kg, -62kg, -67kg, -73kg, +73kg) for Women.

After the last matches, the Awarding Ceremony and Closing Ceremony took place in Cheongyang Gymnasium at 12: 00. The Closing Ceremony was chair by Mr. Cho Heyo Jong, KUTF Vice President. The ceremony started with the Speech of Mr. Jang Chang Young, who was the President of Organizing Committee. AUSF Program Manager, Mr. XU Hui, on behalf of AUSF, expressed the gratitude to the Organizing Committee for the efforts to make this championship and gave his special appreciation to the outstanding volunteers.

As AUSF anthem was played, the AUSF flag was lowered and the 4th Asian University Taekwondo Championship was officially closed.
