ALMATY – The Organising Committee of the 2nd World University Speed Skating Championship that will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from 18 to 21 December, 2014 received the visit of a number of FISU delegates to oversee the preparations of the upcoming event.
The competition is being organised by the Students Sport Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the ‘Executive Directorate of Almaty Winter Universiade 2017’ State Fund, with the support of the Kazakhstan Skating Federation and Almaty Department of Sport and Physical Education. The OC welcomed the FISU WUC Director Paulo Ferreira and the FISU Speed Skating Technical Delegate Sergio Anesi. The FISU representatives visited the event venues, namely the competition site «Medeu» ice arena, the official hotels for athletes, officials and other participants, the medical facilities and ceremony sites.
A series of meetings were held with the different functional areas of the OC, focusing mainly on information exchange and final updates on event preparation. Transportation, media, protocol and ceremonies, ticketing, anti-doping and medical, volunteers, promotion and international relations.
The OC is expecting to receive over 100 participants at this event, a new record for the event in FISU but, more importantly, an excellent opportunity for the OC to trial itself in preparation for the 2017 Winter Universiade that will be held in the same location.
