ALMATY – From 26 to 28 February Almaty hosted the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup. About 150 athletes from 15 countries demonstrated their mastery at the “Sunkar” International Ski Jumping Complex. This venue will be used during the 28th Winter Universiade that will be held in Almaty in 2017.
At the concluding press conference World Cup winners of the two competitions days Sara Takanashi (JPN) and Peter Prevc (SLO) noted the high level of the competition, the work of volunteers and the “Sunkar” International Ski Jumping Complex.
“It is my fifth time in Kazakhstan. I was impressed with the work of the Organising Committee and volunteers for putting all their efforts to keep the hill comfortable for us. I think, the high level of the event is due to their great work” – Sara Takanashi.
The winner of two days in Men SJ World Cup Peter Prevc from Slovenia noted, “The venue is new for me, I like it. For me this venue is one of the best in the world. The construction of the hill is similar to the Complex in Planica, so it was not difficult for me to adjust”, he noted.
Peter Prevc also shared with his suggestions for the young athletes: “I wish young athletes from Kazakhstan to work very hard in order to achieve high results. This kind of events gives rise to the popularization of the ski jumping and attracts lots of boys and girls”.
The Head of the Organising Committee of the 2017 Winter Universiade Asset Abdualiyev noted, FIS Ski Jumping World Cup also serve as test event for the upcoming Winter Universiade.
«During this event the services of the Organising Committee and «Sunkar» International Ski Jumping Complex were tested», noted Asset Abdualiyev.
FIS Ski Jumping Race Director Walter Hofer noted that «all the best athletes accepted the invitation and it took long way for them to take part in World Cup».
«I express my gratitude to Mayor’s office for giving us opportunity to hold the event and for a huge work done from their side. The next step of development for the ski jumping will happen next year at the Winter Universiade 2017», concluded Walter Hofer.
