XIAMEN – On 21 October, the Press Conference of the 3×3 FISU World University League Final took place on the campus of Huaqiao University. FISU President Oleg Matytsin, FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond, accompanied by Shen Zhen, FUSC Vice-President, and Jia Yimin, President of Huaqiao University attended the conference.
“Thanks to Huaqiao University that host the competition.” Oleg Matytsin expressed his appreciation. “You perfectly demonstrate your university’s style – integrating sports, education and culture.”
Eric Saintrond explained some changes of this year’s event compared to last year’s edition. “The major change of the programme this year is that we expand the former 12 teams of each gender to 16 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams.”
Shen Zhen also emphasize his appreciation to the Organizing Committee. “Thanks to all the staff and the volunteers for their hard work. We, the guests, feel as they are warm-hearted and professional.”
Later the day, the opening ceremony was held in Xinglin Sports Hall, a new decorated sport center.
Mr. Jia Yimin, on behalf of the host, expressed a warm welcome representing the host to all the participants and the guests.
“3×3 Basketball World University League is the very first official FISU competition among individual universities. And today we will see teams representing their universities in the first place,” Oleg Matytsin said. “This is a chance for us to be closer to the students. As you know, today’s students will be society’s leaders tomorrow.”
Mr. Liu Jianjin, the vice-president of Fujian education ministry announced the official opening of the event.
As for the main part on the first day, wonderful moments had been shown during the opening ceremony. A variety of Chinese cultural performances were provided by the local students, whose passion and energy lighted up the whole gymnasium.
24 matches were played during the opening day, and the rest of the preliminaries will be finished on the 2nd day, as well as the qualifications of the Men’s Dunk Contest and the Women’s Shoot -out Contest.
