NICOSIA – The 3rd and the last day of the 1st World University Sambo Championship was as joyful and exciting as the days before. Russia was the front runner from day one and they proved it by winning the first place after they beat Kyrgyzstan. The hosting country, Cyprus, celebrated the 3rd place along with Lithuania in the Team Championship.
The closing ceremony included medals for the athletes but also memorial medals and plaques from the Cyprus University Sports Federation to the ambassadors of FISU and the International Sambo Federation.

Dr. Michalis Krashias, president of Cyprus University Sports Federation, noted that as a hosting country “we wanted to please the athletes who travelled from all over the world expecting a well-organized championship that would provide them with the opportunity to compete with all their strength and prove their skills.”
The next World University Sambo Championship will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia in 2018 and everybody is looking forward to meet again.
