ALMATY – After two days of round robin play at the Winter Universiade in Almaty, Kazakhstan Great Britain’s men’s team and Switzerland’s women’s team have won all three of their games, so far.
Bruce Mouat’s GB team beat Canada 9-4 on Tuesday morning, before going onto post a 7-4 victory over Norway, in the evening.
Switzerland’s women’s team, skipped by Elena Stern, beat Norway 7-4, in their only game of the day. In the end, single points steals in the third and tenth end were pivotal for the Swiss.
The Switzerland-Norway tie saw the daughters of two Olympic gold medallists – Briar Huerlimann daughter of 1998 Olympic champion Patrick Huerlimann and Pia Trulsen daughter of 2002 gold medallist Pal Trulsen – go head-to-head.
Great Britain’s women’s team also won their game today – 8-7 against Germany, while China posted a big 10-0 victory over hosts Kazakhstan.
Czech Republic men also beat Kazakhstan 10-2 on Tuesday evening, while Korea men came out on top, in an all-Pacific-Asia clash with Japan, 7-6. It was a score of three in the tenth end that proved decisive for Seong Sehyeon’s Korean team.
