#WUAlmaty2017: Curlers Briar Hurlinman and Pia Trulsen take after their Famous Dads

ALMATY – It’s not unusual when children take after their parents. And there are two female curlers who decided to walk the path of their fathers at the 28th Winter Universiade. Briar Hürlimann of Switzerland is daughter of 1998 Olympic champion skip Patrick Hürlimann and Norway’s Pia Trulsen is the daughter of 2002 Olympic champion skip Pål Trulsen.

“It was kinda natural, starting to play. Curling always stood out to me. It’s a good team sport and I always loved it,” says 25 years old Pia. Her 23 years old Swiss rival Briar says she didn’t start because of her parents: “It was more because of friends.”

Do they remember their father’s triumph? “I was only five years old so I was playing in my room and suddenly I heard people cheering downstairs so I ran downstairs,” says Briar. Pia admits she doesn’t really remember that special day her father reached for gold: “I was ten, so I was too young. We tried to watch it but I fell asleep. So when they won, my mum woke me up.”
