Opening Ceremony and events start December 5th on the river beach of Ponta Negra
300 student athletes competing for the championship titles at the 3rd International University Beach Games arrived in the Brazilian city of Manaus, a pocket of urbanity in the middle of the jungle. Tuesday night the event kicks off with Opening Ceremony centred around the celebration of university sport before team competitions in beach soccer, beach volleyball and beach handball get underway on the river beach sands of Ponta Negra that sit 1500 kilometres from the oceanside.
Opening Ceremony
Ponta Negra beach warms up as international host with Tuesday’s night’s Opening Ceremony will be held on Tuesday in the evening, at 9pm (Brasília time), as teams parade into the competition grounds. The ceremonies take place right after the Brazilian University Beach Games, the last national event of the Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU) 2017 season.
Brazil will be represented by the teams that participated in the Brazilian University Beach Games, and teams from the universities of Amazonas, representing the host state.
In the third edition of the event, Luciano Cabral, president of Brazil’s University Sport Confederation highlighted the state of Amazonas. “We believe that, because it is in Manaus, a river beach, this arouses the curiosity of the countries, to know the region. The whole world has a great interest in the Amazon, and this was a great positive factor to also attract the attention of the participants.”
