The Ivan Yarygin Sports Palace retrofitted with ice for the curling competitions of the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter UniversiadeKRASNOYARSK, RUSSIAN FEDERATION – With the World Junior Curling Championships coming to town, the sport is hardly getting the cold shouler in the heart of Siberia. As a lead-in to the event, the Russian Curling Federation’s secretary general Olga Zharkoval paid a visit to Krasnoyarsk to check on the readiness of the Crystal Ice Arena to host this event, which will take place from the 15 to 22 February.
During the visit, Olga Zharkova inspected the ice rinks, premises for ice technicians, changing rooms, warm-up area, team meeting room, massage room, stands, zones for umpires and discussed venue layout and organization of services for the guests.
The Crystal Ice Arena will transform from a premiere ice hockey venue into the competition arena for the World Junior Curling Championships this February in Krasnoyarsk
While the Crystal Ice Arean hosted ice hockey competitions during the 29th Winter Universiade, the curling know-how and major exent expertise has stayed in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
“We visited Crystal Ice Arena in March during the Winter Universiade 2019,” Zharkova said. “This is a very convenient, modern, functional arena that meets all the international standards. In our sport, it is very important to have ice surface ideally flat, and therefore Crystal Ice Arena fits perfectly for curling competitions.”
