With four exciting match ups in the men’s field on Monday, 13 July, the quarterfinals are set, and will take place today.
In the first battle of the day, Abdulaziz Alwahhabi from Al-Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University Riyadh (KSA) faced Amran Al Dhuhli from Modern College of Business and Science (OMA).
The Arabian player started the match really strong, despite an early missed penalty, kept up the pressure and opened the score with a fast goal from Mbappé. This goal awakened Al Dhuli, who immediately scored the equaliser by Eusebio penalty. The first game ended in a draw, without many clear chances.
In the second game of match, Alwahhabi missed a couple of penalties and the mistakes allowed Al Dhuhli to take over. With that, the player from Oman piled on the pressure and managed to open a wide 3-0 lead in the first half. Being effective in his attacks, Al Dhuhli controlled the match thereon, and despite his opponent’s goal, he scored two more and closed the match, winning 5-1.
The second battle was a Brazilian derby, between Ulisses Selles from Anhembi Morumbi University and Luccas Ferreira from Federal University of São Carlos – UFSCar. Both players practice together, have faced each other in other competitions, so it was like a battle of old rivals.
Selles opened the score soon and looked like he would control the match, but in the last minute of the first half Ferreira tied the game with Eusébio goal. In the second half game, both players tried to control the match, but Ferreira won the first game by 2-1.
Trailing, Selles put pressure on his opponent from the start of the second game and only managed to open the scoring at the end of the first half. His happiness was short-lived though, as early in the second half Ferreira drew with another goal from Eusébio. Ferreira won both games 2-1 and qualified for the quarterfinals.
In the second session of matches, Ádám Borkai from Széchenyi István University (HUN) was up against Luis Domenico Suarez from University of Lima (PER). The player from Peru managed to score two goals in a sequence, and despite a goal from Neymar for the Hungarian, Suarez scored a 2-1 win in the first game.
Suarez started the second match by pressing Borkai, scoring early on with Dembele. As in the first game, Neymar scored for Borkai’s team, but at the end of the first half, Suarez had a 2-1 advantage. Having to reverse a two-goal lead, Borkai tried to put pressure on his opponent, but took no chances. At the end of the match, Suarez scored a third goal and managed to qualify for the next stage.
In the final round of 16 match of the men’s draw, Dillon Henriques-Gomes from Swinburne University of Technology (AUS) faced Muhammad Nazli Lim, from University of Malaysia Pahang (MAS). The Australian started with an early goal, from Cruyf, one of the best icons in the game.
This allowed him to play more calmly and take advantage of chances. At the end of the first half, it was 2-0 on the scoreboard. Taking advantage of Nazli’s apparent nervousness, the Australian started the second half just as he had done the first one, scoring another goal.
