#UniSportsClassics brings back the Harbin 2009 men’s ice hockey final

16 December 2020

maxresdefaultLed by defensemen Ryan Pottruff, Canada’s student-athlete standouts take on Russia in the Harbin 2009 Winter Universiade ice hockey final. If it feels a bit like deja vu all over again in 2009, it might be because the two countries matched up with gold on the line in the previous event edition in Torino.

Will Canada leave China with its fourth Winter Universiade gold in men’s ice hockey, or will the Russian contingent come home victorious this time? The Canadian men’s team might have a little extra momentum on their side, as their women won the inaugural Winter Universiade women’s ice hockey title in Harbin.  Can the men now make it a clean sweep of the top step of the podium in the metropolitan hub of Northeast China?

The Canadians sound confident, as their coach Milan Dragicevic said, “We have one goal going over there and that is to bring back the gold and make Canada proud.”
