Dual career, digitalisation, and women in elite sport among key topics to be discussed at the 2021 FISU World Conference

20 October 2021

The FISU World Conference on Innovation, Education and Sport will be held on 13 and 14 December 2021 during the Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade. The theme for this year’s FISU World Conference is “Challenges and Opportunity for Sport in Modern Society,” where sub-topics discussed will be around the dual career, digitalisation, and women in elite sport.

The conference will feature several speakers who will present their research, followed by panel discussions. Included in the lineup of experienced guest speakers include individuals from academia and athletic backgrounds:

  • Dr Marianne Meier—Interdisciplinary Centre for Gender Studies in Bern, Switzerland
  • Dr Jessica Piasecki—long distance athlete and researcher at Nottingham Trent University
  • Dr Tim Ströbel—professor at the University of Bayreuth
  • Dr Strobel— researcher for brand management and digital transformations
  • De Paul Wylleman—Professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussels and team psychologist of the Dutch Olympic team
  • Dr Martina van Berkel—former swimmer, expert in media economics and member of the Swiss Olympic Executive Board
  • Dr Sarah Springman—former top triathlete and currently ETH chancellor
  • Maja Neuenschwander—former top athlete, currently Project Director for Women and Elite Sport at Swiss Olympic
  • Dr Andreas Küttel—sports scientist and former ski jumper

In addition, students will also be able to attend the conference as they have been also given the opportunity to submit research projects that relate to the topics and sub-topics that will be addressed. The most suitable projects will then be selected and presented at the FISU World Conference, and awards will be given to the authors of the best projects.

“We believe that involving students is crucial,” says Head of University Projects, Patrick Udvardi. “This event offers a unique opportunity, and we would like as many students as possible to benefit from it.”
