4th FISU America 3×3 Basketball underway in Peru

FISU Americas 3x3Photo credit – FISU AmericaThe busy summer for global university sport continues and includes the Americas Continental Qualifying Tournament for the Istanbul 2022 FISU University World Cup 3×3 Basketball. 21 teams representing universities from nine countries are competing in both women’s and men’s events in Lima, Peru.

 

Organised by FISU America, the University Sports Federation of Peru (FEDUP) and hosted by the San Ignacio de Loyola University (USIL), the will qualify the women’s and men’s winner to compete in Istanbul in October of 2022. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, and Peru are the eight countries from across the Americas that have sent university teams.

 

 09A9736Photo credit – FISU AmericaPresident of FISU America Alim Maluf Neto expressed his excitement in seeing the tournament get underway. “This event is a very special event for us because it is the return of all of them to face-to-face sports activities. I would like to thank in a deeper way all the teams of the organising committee that have been together with the federation and USIL,” he said.

 

FISU University World Cups have athletes compete for their universities, as opposed to for their countries as is seen at FISU Games and FISU World University Championships. Over 100 athletes are at the Pachacamac Sports Centre in Lima with semi-finals and finals taking place on Thursday 21 July. The 2022 FISU World Cup 3×3 Basketball takes place in Istanbul 27-29 October with 12 teams of each gender competing.
