The last FISU handball competition was a World Cup and it took place in Pristina (Kosovo).

From 24-30 June, the Spanish city of Antequera will welcome 14 teams from 8 countries for six days of thrilling games.

Known as “the heart of Andalusia”, Antequera is a medium-sized city located about 45 kilometers inland from the coast at Malaga. The Antequera 2024 FISU WUC Handball is organised by Camilo José Cela University in collaboration with various sports and educational institutions, all with the shared goal of promoting university sports and fostering international competition.

The last FISU handball competition was a World Cup (it took place in Kosovo in 2022), which means it was universities competing and not countries. The home team, University of Pristina “Hasan Prishtina”, won the men’s tournament and Korea National Sport Sports University grabbed the women’s gold.

A spectacular shot from the 2022 event in Pristina.

This time in Antequera, six countries travelled with both women’s and men’s teams (Chile, Czechia, France, India, Poland and Spain), while Brazil only sent their men’s team and the Netherlands their women’s.

The official draw, held at the FISU Headquarters in Lausanne in May, divided them up in the following groups:

Men
Group A:
Spain, Poland, Brazil, India
Group B: Czechia, France, Chile

Women
Group A: Spain, France, India
Group B: Czechia, Poland, Chile, The Netherlands
