In anticipation of the Chungcheong 2027 FISU World University Games Summer, the organising committee, led by President Kang Chang-hee, successfully concluded a 15 day inspection.
Held from 3 to 17 November, this inspection led by the International Technical Committee (ITC) and Technology & Innovation (TEC) Department of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) represented a significant milestone, as the countdown to the reaches 1,000 days.
30 facilities, 14 different sports
The FISU ITC, composed of 21 experts, conducted a meticulous evaluation of the FISU game’s key facilities, including sports venues, the FISU Games village, and competition logistics. This involved careful inspections of 30 facilities across 14 sports, including athletics, swimming, archery, taekwondo, judo, volleyball, basketball, and beach volleyball, among others.
Each sport underwent a structured three-day review comprising an opening meeting, on-site inspection, and individual discussions. The ITC provided valuable insights and guidance to help the Organising Committee optimise its preparation efforts.
Following on-site inspections, the FISU ITC engaged in detailed discussions regarding suggested technical improvements for various facilities. These discussions, attended by FISU Summer Games representatives, ITC technical chairs, the organising committee staff, and sport-specific officials, offered constructive feedback on ensuring that the facilities align with FISU’s minimum requirements, thereby enhancing the competition experience for athletes and spectators alike.
Extensive evaluation process
Beyond evaluating venues, the FISU ITC also reviewed various plans in key areas such as FISU Games village management, accommodation, transportation, food and beverage services, volunteer, and delegation services. While providing suggestions for further enhancement, the ITC expressed its overall satisfaction with Organising Committee’s preparations.
“There is still ample time for preparations before the FISU Games, and the current facilities meet requirements very well,” said Thomas Chang, volleyball technical chair. “While some areas could be improved, I am confident that the organising committee will address these effectively,” added fencing technical chair, Julius Kralik.
Impressive Chungju Rowing Regatta
The Chungju Rowing Regatta, a renowned international venue that previously hosted the 2015 Gwangju Universiade, the World Championships, and the Asian-Oceania Regional Qualification for the Olympic Games, received high praise. Kirsten Meisner, chair of the Rowing technical committee, commented, “This venue already offers world-class facilities, so I anticipate no challenges in preparing it for the upcoming competition.”
President Kang Chang-hee extended his gratitude to the FISU ITC for their expertise, affirming that the Organising Committee would thoughtfully incorporate their feedback to address any recommended improvements. “Our committee is fully dedicated to ensuring an exceptional FISU Games experience for all participants,” he shared. “We value FISU’s guidance and are committed to continual progress in our preparations.”
