GoTriangle Chairwoman Brenda Howerton and North Carolina 2029 FISU World University Games Chairman and CEO Hill Carrow unveil the first-ever GoTriangle wrapped buses at RTP’s Brickyard complex on 4 December.

On December 4, 2024, GoTriangle unveiled two specially wrapped buses to celebrate the North Carolina 2029 FISU World University Games, which will take place in the Triangle and Triad regions of North Carolina’s University Hub. The buses not only brought visibility to the FISU Games but also highlighted the excitement of the local organising committee and its partners as they prepare to host one of the world’s largest sporting events, connecting the Triangle region to the Piedmont.

The event featured speeches from:

  • Brenda Howerton, Chair, GoTriangle Board of Trustees
  • Scott Levitan, President & CEO, RTP
  • Jing Zhao, FISU Games Summer Director, FISU (International University Sports Federation)
  • Hill Carrow, Chair & CEO, North Carolina 2029 FISU World University Games Local Organising Committee
  • Wendy Coulter, CEO, Hummingbird Creative Group (creators of the bus artwork and brand identity)

The bus wrap highlights the North Carolina 2029 FISU World University Games, the world’s largest sporting event, which will take place in North Carolina.

Jing Zhao, FISU Games Summer Director, joined as a speaker and featured guest alongside other FISU executives. She emphasized the critical role of public transportation in supporting the FISU Games, which will bring together more than 7,500 university athletes from around the world to compete in 18 Olympic sports.

The wrapped buses are just the beginning of many activities planned over the next four years to celebrate the North Carolina 2029 FISU Games.

From July 11 to 22, 2029, North Carolina will proudly host the largest global sporting event of the year. This monumental gathering will bring together 7,500 athletes competing across 18 sports, along with 1,500 officials representing 150 nations. Broadcast worldwide, the event promises to captivate audiences on an international scale. Preparations are well underway, with organisations like GoTriangle and Research Triangle Park spearheading efforts to generate excitement and raise awareness as the countdown to the games begins.
