Cult band Deichkind to headline the Closing Ceremony in Duisburg

The hip-hop and electro-punk band will take to the stage at Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord on 27 July 2025. Tickets on sale from Tuesday 10 December.

Deichkind have been a fixture on the German music scene for over 25 years. The quartet is known for its energetic performances and elaborate stage shows, which will make for one big party at the end of the . “When thousands of athletes and fans come to Duisburg this summer for the FISU World University Games, there will be many sporting and cultural highlights. This special time will be crowned by a big closing ceremony in the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park. With top act Deichkind, I am also expecting top musical performances,” says Duisburg’s Lord Mayor Sören Link.

Cultural and sporting highlights

Tickets are also on sale for the Opening Ceremony at the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena on 16 July, when the German superstar Ayliva as well as Montez, Querbeat, WDR Radio Orchestra, and one still-to-be-revealed top international act will perform.

Sports wise, preparations for the 12-day festival remain on schedule and the response from participating countries has already been outstanding, with over 130 nations confirming their attendance.

“The high number of international registrations, the strong support from the region and the enthusiasm for our cultural supporting programme show that 2025 will be an unforgettable year for the Rhine-Ruhr region,’” Niklas Börger, Managing Director of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, says. “As a team, we have succeeded this year in putting the event on a secure footing with the new concept and ensuring that the Rhine-Ruhr region and Berlin can look forward to such a major international event.”

In addition to the sporting highlights and spectacular concerts, the will form a central academic part of the programme of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, with leading international scientists convening over three days at the Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum (17 to 19 July). In addition, other landmarks such as the Zeche Zollverein, as well as the open-mindedness of the local people, will create an authentic and warm atmosphere in the Rhine-Ruhr region.
