The International University Sports Federation’s President Leonz Eder and FISU Games Winter Director Milan Augustin travelled to sunny Lenzerheide (SUI) to watch the BMW IBU Biathlon World Championships, but also to meet the sport’s highest representatives to sign a MoU.
A dual purpose trip! On one side, FISU President Leonz Eder and FISU Games Winter Director – and former biathlete – Milan Augustin travelled to the Grisons region of Switzerland to meet International Biathlon Union (IBU) President Olle Dahlin and Secretary General Max Cobb to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and on the other the four winter sports enthusiasts made sure to get out of the meeting room to watch the competitions.
The signed convention should allow the development of a close, effective and actionable collaboration between FISU and IBU. It outlines a common initiative to promote sports for all university students, regardless of their gender. This is a step towards creating a more inclusive and diverse sporting culture in universities worldwide.

This aim will be reached through the design and implementation of educational campaigns to foster values such as sustainability, fair- play, integrity, and to fight against doping, racism, and violence in sports. These initiatives will seek to raise awareness among university athletes and officials alike.
Both federations are aligned on common missions, such as advancing sport at the university level and fostering community-building through biathlon and other university sports.
Biathlon has been a FISU sport since the 1983 Winter Universiade in Sofia, Bulgaria. As a sport that has its roots in the army, biathlon has become a very exciting and popular discipline for university students. The last FISU biathlon competition took place in Pragelato, Italy and was part of the programme of the recent Torino 2025 FISU World University Games.
