Host Country dominates 6th FISU World University Sprint Canoe Championship
The 6th FISU World University Sprint Canoe Championship took place in Minsk, Belarus last week and was dominated by the student-athletes of the host country. The Belarussians climbed the podium twenty times in the different categories, amassing almost a third of the 72 medals at stake. Indeed with 13 gold, 1 silver and 6 bronze, the local canoers and kayakers lead the medal table in the gold and bronze category as well as overall.
In the overall medal haul, Poland followed closely with 19 medals (6 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze), putting the Czechs in third place with 9 medals overall (3 gold, 3 silver & 3 bronze) to mark the top three in the medal tally. A total of 11 countries saw their athletes mount the medal podium (BLR, POL, CZE, LTU, KAZ, RUS, UKR, SVK, SRB, HUN & ITA).
