Thai Weightlifters dominate 4th FISU WUC Weightlifting
The 4th World University Weightlifting Championship in Chiang Mai, Thailand, kicked-off on 5 December, an important day for the Thai, being it their King’s birthday.
The 4th edition of this FISU event was clearly dominated by the local lifters. Indeed, the Thai weightlifters totalled an impressive 12 medals in the overall medal standings, 7 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze. Especially the female lifters were very strong, winning gold in all categories (53kg, 58kg, 63 kg, 69kg & +75kg), but one (75kg) where Canadian 2014 Commonwealth Champion and bronze medallist in the Kazan Universiade Marie-Eve Beauchemin-Nadeau climbed the highest podium.
Besides the gold sweep by the Thai female lifters, with Khamsri (THA), an IWF World Championship medallist (bronze in 2014 and silver in 2011) and a bronze medallist at the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan and IWF World Championship medallist (bronze in 2014) and former IWF Junior World Champion (2014) Srisurat (THA), in their ranks, medals went to 17 countries, i.e. THA, CAN, TUR, MEX, CHN, FRA, MDA, POL, HUN, RUS, BRA, ROU, KOR, USA, JPN, TPE and SVK.
