Poland dominated 7th WUC Canoe Sprint
From 7 to 10 June, the 7th World University Canoe Sprint Championship took place in Montemor-O-Velho, Portugal. More than 160 athletes from 18 countries participated in this University Sport event. Among the 18 teams, 14 of them were European. Together with Australia, China, Korea and Japan, the championship had global participation.
From the first day onwards, the Polish athletes had shown their strength and at the closing of the competitions, it became obvious that they clearly dominated most of the races collecting a total of 21 medals: 18 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze. Italy pocketed 11 medals (1 G – 5 S -5 B) while host Portugal (2 G – 5 S – 1 B) and Hungary (1 G- 1 S – 7 B) both collected eight medals. Other countries mounting the medal podium were Lithuania, Germany, Czech Republic, Great Britain, France and Slovakia.
The 7th World University Canoe Sprint Championship ended with the Closing Ceremony where the FISU flag was passed to the hosts of the 8th WUC Canoe Sprint that will take place in Szeged, Hungary, in 2018.
