The General Assembly of FISU, composed of 164 National University Sport Federation members, establishes the organisation’s general policy and main lines of work. The 38th General Assembly took place on 17-18 November 2023.
More specifically, the objectives of the FISU General Assembly are to:
- Meet every two years, and bring together FISU’s 165 national university sports member federations
- Elect the FISU Executive Committee for a four-year period
- Approve the budget and the programme proposed by the Executive Committee

The Student Committee is responsible of 5 keys points:
- Increasing students participation in university sport activities
- Developing co-operation internally and with external partners
- Reinforcing the image of FISU and of the university sport movement
- Positively influencing changes in and the development of university sport
- Supporting the added value of students’ participation within FISU activities (e.g., events and committees)
The CGS is responsible for studying, preparing and submitting to the Executive Committee, the regulations for the sports events of FISU. The CGS will first submit any proposed modifications to the International Sports Federations concerned, through the FISU General Secretariat. If it appears desirable to adapt the regulations of the International Sports Federations for the sports events of FISU, the CGS will first submit any proposed modifications to the International Federations concerned, through the FISU General Secretariat.
This committee is responsible for:
- advising the FISU Executive Committee and the President on all matters related to the advertising and media coverage of FISU activities
- cooperating with all international press associations, especially with the International Sports Press Association (AIPS)
- collaborating with the organising committees of sports events to ensure the widest possible audience of Summer and Winter editions of the FISU World University Games, along with World University Championships and University World Cups
- collaborating with organising committees of educational events to ensure the widest possible audience of these events
- ensuring that organisers provide the appropriate services for the media
- advising organisers on all matters concerning the press during FISU events, particularly on accreditation and media representatives
The Legal Committee is a non permanent commission with a role both consultative and operational on juridical issues.
The Gender Equality Committee advises the FISU Executive Committee on suitable policies to be developed, to encourage, support and enhance the presence of women on and off the field (i.e., participation in sports competitions and representation in sports governing bodies), with a view to implement the principle of equality between men and women, thus fully representing the values of university sport and those of our modern society worldwide.
The ITC Championships and World Cups is responsible for : cooperating with the CGS (Sport Management Committee) in drawing up the technical regulations of the World University Championships and University World Cups; advising the EC concerning any general problem of a technical nature; controlling the technical conduct of the World University Championships and University World Cups.
The Finance Committee assists the Executive Committee of FISU in managing its financial resources and in setting its budgets in order to ensure continuity and development of its activities.
The FISU Games Winter ITC is responsible for: cooperating with the CGS (Sport Management Committee) in drawing up the technical regulations of the FISU World University Games Winter; advising the Executive Committee concerning any general problem of a technical nature; controlling the technical conduct of the FISU World University Games Winter.
The FISU Games ITC is responsible for : cooperating with the CGS (Sport Management Committee) in drawing up the technical regulations of the FISU World University Games Summer; advising the EC concerning any general problem of a technical nature; controlling the technical conduct of the FISU Summer World University Games.
The tasks of the CMI are the following: a) to ensure obedience to the technical rules, in force, of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the International Sports Federations on a medical field, for international sporting events (anti-doping control, medical supervision of competitions, etc.). b) to cooperate especially with the Medical Committee of the IOC, the FIMS (International Sports Medicine Federation), the Medical Committee of the FSI and the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency). c) to help the organisers of the sporting events of F.I.S.U. to ensure the obedience to regulations concerning the appropriate medical controls. d) in cooperation with the CESU, to promote the scientific study of the university sport by all appropriate measures and to support mass physical and sports activity among students.
The CIC is responsible for controlling the qualifications of competitors at the Universiades and World University Championships; and for proposing any measure which could improve the system of control.
The main objectives and responsibilities of CDSU are as follows: -examine and submit policies and objectives for the different Development areas to the decision of the FISU Executive Committee; 1-develop appropriate tools to structure the administrative work and develop external and internal communication in the area of Development; 2-analyse and work out recommendations for the FISU Executive Committee for: a. projects presented by Continental Federations; b. projects presented by National Unversity Sports Federations (NUSF); c. special projects that FISU wants to initiate; 3-allocate financial resources and carry out monitoring and evaluation of the projects and programmes approved by the FISU Executive Committee.
The mains tasks of the Education Committee is to:
- Promote the scientific study of university sport through conferences, forums, reports, publications, lectures and all other appropriate measures (Article 138)
- Gather knowledge about university sport and to establish knowledge management for/about university sport
- Support the continual improvement of the quality of national and local university sport through sharing of its outputs
- Engage with and/or support through partnerships both internal FISU Committees in educational matters, and external organisations which promote similar educational objectives to those of FISU
- Advise on the management and support of contracted relationships between FISU and other agencies (universities, foundations, external agencies) through which FISU aims to benefit its members through the education-sport mix
- Take an active part in educational events (conferences, congresses, seminars,…) organised by national or international agencies in order to present and promote FISU aims and goals
