As a student-athlete, it is often difficult to know what support you should ask for from your university. Knowing what you need vs what you would like is important to determine. Any request should be appropriate to your circumstances and should be realistic.

It is recommended that student-athletes undertake a short self evaluation to help guide them in identifying their elite athlete status and to gain an understanding of what what they specifically need and what would be beneficial to them.

Universities are more likely to support student-athletes that are at the elite and sub elite levels of their sporting career.

If you are not an elite or sub elite athlete, your university may have other opportunities that can assist in your sporting pursuits.

Remember – being realistic is key when asking for support. Assess your real (actual) needs rather than asking for everything all at once.
