Before asking for any type of support from your university, students should ask themselves the following questions to better understand their situation.
What level of athlete are you?
- Elite – you have represented/are representing your country at an Olympic, Commonwealth Games or World Championships in your chosen sport.
- Sub Elite – you have competed at a high level for your sport but not at an Olympics, Commonwealth Games or World Championships. Examples include Asia Games, Pacific Games or European Games.
- National level – you have attended a national championship in your sport in your home country.
- Sub national level – you have competed in your sport at a local level but not at a national level.
What sport do you do?
- Does your sport have a National Federation in your country?
- If yes, does your National Federation already provide you with some support? It is recommended that you make a list of the support you receive. The university will be interested in this information to ensure there is no double up of services provided to you.

- Does your sport have a world championship event?
- Are you likely to be selected (by your national federation) to attend the world championship event?
