Modern Pentathlon is an Olympic sport that traditionally comprises five events: fencing, swimming, horse riding, and cross-country running combined with pistol shooting. This format was used in the inaugural World University Championship in Budapest, Hungary, in 2018. The sport has evolved to a new format consisting of obstacle race and laser run (cross-country run plus laser shooting), to be followed by FISU from 2024.
